About TypeFree
TypeFree is a Chrome extension that converts speech to text using your browser's built-in speech recognition, with optional AI-powered grammar correction.
Data We Process
- Speech Audio: Processed locally by Chrome's built-in Web Speech API. We do not store, transmit, or have access to your audio recordings.
- Transcribed Text: Only sent to Google's Gemini API when you explicitly click the "Correct Grammar" button. We do not store your text on any server.
- API Key: Your Gemini API key is stored locally in your browser's localStorage. It is only used to authenticate requests to Google's API and is never transmitted to us or any third party.
Data We Do Not Collect
- Personal information (name, email, address)
- Browsing history or website content
- Location data
- Usage analytics or tracking data
- Any other user data
Third-Party Services
- Chrome Web Speech API: Built into your browser, processes speech locally.
- Google Gemini API: Used only for optional grammar correction when you click the button. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Data Storage
All data (your API key and language preference) is stored locally in your browser using localStorage. No data is sent to our servers. We do not operate any servers that receive or store user data.
Your Control
You can delete all stored data at any time by:
- Removing the extension from Chrome
- Clearing your browser's localStorage for the extension
